Transforming support for children
At With Kids we aim to support early intervention and prevention, rather than just reacting to crises. By promoting better learning and communication, With Kids helps different child and family support services to work together in a more integrated, coordinated way.
With Kids has been a fantastic support for myself and my family helping with everything from just listening to helping with forms and supporting me through a lot of emotional things. They’ve helped with extending my knowledge with autism so I can support my son better and helped me emotionally deal with my eldest daughter who is struggling a lot with life in general.

I believe that all nurseries should have future funding to continue Play Therapy work. The With Kids Therapist has been such an invaluable source of knowledge and support which has helped our families move through periods of crisis in their life with the input of play therapy sessions in the nursery. It has enabled parents to build a greater confidence and developed their understanding of their child’s needs. This has enabled a collaborative approach for the child, family and staff to work together on play therapy strategies and given a greater and sustained change.

In the nursery at any one time I could probably refer 3 times as many, although through discussion and therapist given staff support on how to use these techniques in the playroom makes long-term change. I think this has been the single most effective intervention we have in school for children.

Having the therapist check-in with me on a regular basis was so helpful. I felt like it reset my mindset around the child and the early experiences she has had. A good reminder for me to then best support her. It is easy to forget because she does manage well in school.

The therapist has delivered staff training which has been instrumental in changing staff mindsets and understanding children who have experienced trauma, different learning profile such as autistic child and understanding a child’s behaviour indicates if a child needs support through play therapy techniques and learning what the child needs during dysregulated behaviour.
This has had such a positive impact on the staff raising their professional confidence in supporting children with ASL needs and challenging behaviour. There has been a positive shift in staffs attitude in gaining further knowledge and understanding of play therapy this has enabled change to children’s learning environments supporting their needs.
